Home and Hope

Home and Hope provides emergency shelter, meals and support for homeless families on the Peninsula.  Seventeen host churches and synagogues and 16 support congregations provide on-site, overnight accommodations and meals for up to five families with children for one week at a time on a rotating basis.  In the evenings, volunteers from the congregations bring and share dinner with the guests and spend the night at church.  Depending on the age of the children, volunteers may play games, read stories, or help with homework.  The next morning, guests eat breakfast and pack a bagged lunch for later in the day.

A Day Center in Burlingame offers access to computers and laundry, shower and modest personal storage facilities, as well as caseworkers to aid families as they seek housing and jobs.

FPCSM partners with The Unitarian Universalists of San Mateo, sharing supplies (food supplies, bedding, etc.) providing volunteers during the other's host weeks, and coordinating hosting responsabilities.
