Music & Arts

We value music and the arts as means of expressing and conveying our whole-hearted worship of God who Himself is creative and beautiful.  Through music and the arts we utilize the gifts God has given to us in ways that point people to Him, show forth God’s majesty, and bring God glory.  Truly God is the center.  He is our focus.  Our music, singing, and worship is directed at Him and it joyfully proclaims God’s greatness.  The purpose of our multifaceted music and arts ministry is to help people draw near to God in worship as a facet of our seeking after and following Jesus.

On Sunday mornings at FPCSM, you will experience congregational singing, anthems, instrumental pieces, and other special music led by vocalists and our chancel choir, by keyboards and an organ, by drums and guitars, by a variety of other instruments and a variety of voices in a wonderful variety of styles from classic hymns to contemporary Christian music one might hear on KLOVE.

Opportunities abound for those with gifts in music, the arts, and technology, to help lead worship with our choir, as lead vocalists, in our band, through drama and visual arts, and through media.  We recognize the importance of the people in scripture whom God has to serve in music and worship leadership, and we seek to empower such people to fully use the gifts God has given them for these purposes.

Our Director of Music and Worship, Steve Jones, works closely with our choir, our Sunday morning musicians and vocalists, our youth band, and others to train and prepare them to lead God’s people in worship.  Some of these people have formal training; most do not.  So, there is a place for everyone in our music and worship arts ministries, from little children to youth and young adults to senior adults. There is a place for you.   And if you’d like to know more, contact Steve Jones.  He’d love to meet you.

   Hallelujah! Praise God in his holy house of worship
      praise him under the open skies;
   Praise him for his acts of power,
      praise him for his magnificent greatness;
   Praise with a blast on the trumpet,
      praise by strumming soft strings;
   Praise him with castanets and dance,
      praise him with banjo and flute;
   Praise him with cymbals and a big bass drum,
      praise him with fiddles and mandolin.
   Let every living, breathing creature praise God!
      Hallelujah!
